Workshops

From time to time since the late 1990s the Geological Survey of Alabama has  held workshops for teachers. The agency focuses on educational outreach to teachers because by training teachers we indirectly train all of their future students. These workshops have often involved collaboration with other organizations, such as the University of Alabama, the University of North Alabama, Legacy, the Alabama Science Teachers Association, University of West Alabama, the McWane Science Center, the State Lands Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Discovering Alabama, and more. Workshops have been held at the Geological Survey office in Tuscaloosa and in locations as far away as Mobile. Field workshops investigating fossils in the Black Belt have been held almost annually in Livingston since 1997. Other workshops have focused on energy resources, water resources, fossil trackways, and more.

If you are interested in attending a future workshop, or if you have a suggestion for a workshop topic, please contact David C. Kopaska-Merkel.
